No. 22 Ohio State Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 8 Ole Miss, 6-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 22 men’s tennis team fell to No. 8 Mississippi, in a 6-1 decision, Sunday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss. The Buckeyes dropped to a 10-4, 1-0 Big Ten, record and are 0-4 on the road. With the win, the Rebels improved its spring record to 9-2.
In doubles action, the Buckeyes were swept on all three courts. Jeremy Wurtzman (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) and Brenton Contini (Jr., Dover, Ohio) held a 5-2 lead at position No. 2. The OSU pair fell to Ole Miss’ Paul Ciorascu and Catalin Gard in a tight match, 9-7.
Contini handed the fourth point to the Rebels after a loss to Patrick Chucri, 6-3, 6-2. Contini suffered his first duals loss of the season after a 9-match streak.
Frosh Ross Wilson (Fr., Toledo, Ohio) cut the 5-0 deficit for the Bucks after defeating Rebel Karim Alayli, 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-1. Wilson advances to a perfect 9-0 duals record with five wins at the No. 6 slot.
Wurtzman took an early advantage, 6-4, over Rebel No. 16 Alex Hartman. After a 5-7 loss in the second set, Wurtzman fell, 6-1, in the tiebreaker decision. He posts a 6-3 record at the No. 1 position and an 11-3 record in 2003 duals.
Next up, the Buckeye squad travels to battle Big Ten foes Michigan State at 3 p.m., Friday March 14 in East Lansing, Mich. and Michigan, Saturday March 15 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
