COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 18th-ranked Ohio State (3-1, 1-0 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team built a 6-1 lead against 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins (2-2, 0-1) and then stopped a four-goal run by the Blue Jays to come away with a 9-6 win. OSU’s Regina Oliver (So., Pottstown, Pa.) and Alexia Vogler (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.) scored two goals each in OSU’s third consecutive victory. Johns Hopkins had six different student-athletes score goals in the game.
Ohio State opened the scoring with goals by Vogler (7:03) and Oliver (12:12) to take a 2-0 lead. Anne Crisafulli scored the lone Blue Jay goal of the first half at 20:15 on an assist by Meghan Burnett. Oliver’s second goal of the game, at 23:05, put the Buckeyes ahead, 3-1. KC Carter (Fr., Birchrunville, Pa.) scored an unassisted goal at 24:18 and then assisted on Shannon Wilson’s (Sr., Sherkston, Ontario) goal at 25:52 to give Ohio State a 5-1 halftime lead.
The Buckeyes took the lead to 6-1 at 33:33 of the second half with a goal by Noemi Hites (Jr., Pleasanton, Calif.), assisted by Tracey Bounds (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.). Johns Hopkins scored four consecutive goals to cut the Buckeye lead to 6-5. The run began with an unassisted goal by Erinn Dennis at 34:07. Erin Riordan made it 6-3, with an assist from Dennis at 37:36. A Kate Barcomb tally at 39:58 made it 6-4, OSU. The Blue Jays closed to within one at 6-5 on a Liz Holland goal at 42:59, assisted by Burnett. Ohio State countered with the game winner, at 47:50, by Caroline Weatherill to take a 7-5 lead. Vogler’s second goal of the game at 52:23 opened a 9-5 Ohio State lead. A Blue Jay goal by Heide Pearce at 52:36 cut he OSU lead to two at 8-6. The Buckeyes closed out the scoring at 54:48 with a Bounds goal to give Ohio State a 9-6 victory.
OSU goalie Erin Forquer (So., Shaker Heights, Ohio) and Blue Jay Jen McDonald had 15 saves each in the contest.
The Buckeyes return to action at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 16 when they host Virginia Tech in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
