Women’s Volleyball Stacey Gordon Honored As The Big Ten Player Of The Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced today that Ohio State outside hitter Stacey Gordon (Jr., Oshawa, Ontario) had been named the Big Ten Volleyball Player of the Week for her play in road matches at Iowa and No. 19 Minnesota. She had a match-high 30 kills, her ninth 30-plus kill match of the season, in OSU’s 3-0 (31-29, 30-26, 30-26) win Friday, hitting .456 with only four errors in 57 attempts. Gordon added a match-high 13 digs and contributed two ace serves and an assist block. She produced double-digit kills in both game one (10) and game two (12). In Ohio State’s 0-3 (28-30, 26-30, 27-30) loss at No. 19 Minnesota, Gordon scored a match-high 21 kills, adding 19 digs and three assist blocks. For the two matches, she averaged 8.50 kills, 5.33 digs, .67 blocks and .33 aces per game while hitting .322.
With a season 6.62 kills per game average (708 kills, 107 games), Gordon has set the all-time Big Ten record, previously held by Ohio State’s Vanessa Wouters at 6.43 (765 kills, 119 games) in 1996. Her 51-kills on the weekend raises her career total to 1,956 and has moved to seventh on the Big Ten career kills list. Ohio State’s all-time career kills leader, Gordon moved to first in career kills per game with a 5.79 average, passing Wouters’ 5.75 per game average. With the two double-figure kill matches last weekend, Gordon has extended her streak of consecutive matches with double-figure kills to 76. She has recorded double-figure kills in 89 of 91 career matches.
Gordon concluded Big Ten Conference play as the kills per game statistical champion with a 6.77 average. She ranks sixth in digs per game at 3.56 and seventh in aces per game at .32. Gordon finished 14th in hitting percentage at .283.
This marks the fourth time this season Gordon has been honored as the Big Ten Player of the Week. She was named Co-Player of the Week, Sept. 8, for home matches against Ball State, Western Michigan and Temple. Gordon was named Player of the Week, Nov. 3, for home matches against Illinois and Northwestern and repeated the next week, Nov. 10, in road contest at Purdue and Indiana. In her career, Gordon has been honored as the Big Ten Player of the Week 11 times. She won the award three times as a freshman and four times as a sophomore.
