COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio State field hockey team earned a No. 18 ranking in the sixth STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll released Tuesday. The Buckeyes first top-20 position of the year comes after they upset the No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes Oct. 17. OSU’s last appearance in the poll came during the 2002 season, in which they ranked 20th.
OSU’s defeat over Iowa marks the second game this season when they defeated a ranked opponent. Earlier in the year, the Buckeyes upset the then-No. 20 Northwestern Wildcats, 1-0, in overtime Sept. 28.
Ohio State also earned decisive victories over Kent State, 6-2, Radford, 3-0, SW Missouri State, 8-1, and Ball State, 5-2.
The Buckeyes currently own a 9-5 record, including a 2-1 record in the Big Ten, placing them fourth in the conference.
