Randy Monahan Named NCAA Men’s Gymnast of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After placing first in the all-around competition at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ohio State men’s gymnast sophomore Randy Monahan (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was named the NCAA Men’s Gymnast of the Week by Inside Gymnastics collegiate editor Jerry Wright. He played a vital role in the No. 2 Buckeyes first-place showing against four other Top-8 Big Ten programs Jan. 10, where their margin of victory was 4.25 points over second-place No. 7 Iowa.
Monahan placed in the Top 10 on all six events and placed third in three events by scoring a 9.0 on rings, a 9.35 on vault and a 9.0 on high bar. In the competition, he compiled 53.850 points to claim the all-around title by one point. He also placed fourth on floor exercise (9.100) and ninth on both pommel horse (8.800) and parallel bars (8.600).
“He did a great job and obviously that was just a start,” Miles Avery, OSU head coach, said. “I consider him to be one of the best all-around gymnasts in the country.”
