COLUMBUS, Ohio – After placing first in the all-around competition at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ohio State men’s gymnast sophomore Randy Monahan (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was named the Big Ten Men’s Gymnast of the Week. He played a vital role in the No. 2 Buckeyes first-place showing against four other Top-8 Big Ten programs Jan. 10, where their margin of victory was 4.25 points over second-place No. 7 Iowa.
Monahan placed in the Top 10 on all six events and placed third in three events by scoring a 9.0 on rings, a 9.35 on vault and a 9.0 on high bar. In the competition, he compiled 53.850 points to claim the all-around title by one point. He also placed fourth on floor exercise (9.100) and ninth on both pommel horse (8.800) and parallel bars (8.600).
“He did a great job and obviously that was just a start,” Miles Avery, OSU head coach, said. “I consider him to be one of the best all-around gymnasts in the country.”
