Recap| Box Score| Notes
Indiana head coach Mike Davis
“It was a very physical game for us tonight. They controlled the rebounding game, they shot 50 percent from the field, they shot 60 percent from 3-poingt range and they shot 38 free throws. I could go on and on. Darby was fantastic. His 18 points in the first half was tough to recover from. He might be the best player in the Big Ten.”
On the play of Ohio State forward Shun Jenkins:
“They started the game with their big line up. We knew that Jenkins had been playing a lot of minutes since he came back from injury. He got rebound after rebound underneath. He just played with a lot of power and force that we could not handle. He just overpowered our guys with his physical play.”
On Ohio State’s fast start in the first half:
“The 18 points by Darby in the first half really put us in a bad situation. It was the combination of Darby, their tough play inside and their rebounding advantage that put us in a disadvantage.”
Ohio State head coach Jim O’Brien
On if the win was what the team was looking for:
“Yes, that will do it. I just sensed we were down with the last two losses, losing at home in overtime, we were banged up, sore, and had our heads down. We responded and played great.”
On the game plan:
“We were playing with three big guys against their three guards. We played zone defense, which was risky. We had our three big guys hitting the glass. Shun Jenkins was great. Zach (Williams) and Vel (Radinovic) came up huge on the glass. We will have to make adjustments because we have a long way to go and some things to tinker with. We still have a lot of rough edges.”
On Shun Jenkins:
“You never have to question his heart or determination. He is going to go down swinging and never give up. He is just a marvelous kid and we are getting what we want out of him.
On Velimir Radinovic:
“He has to stay in the game. He gets himself in some foul trouble but is playing more aggressively.”
Senior guard Brent Darby
“This was a big win for us and the crowd really came out and supported us. I was really feeling it today. My teammates got me some open looks. I didn’t have to dribble too much to create shots because we were working the ball down low.”
On Shun Jenkins:
“Shun is a big guy and had a small guard on him, so it gave him an advantage and made it easier on him. He had a great game.”
On scoring his 1,000 career point:
“It’s something that can be overlooked, but I can definitely share this with my current and former teammates”
Junior forward Shun Jenkins
“It was a great to beat one of the best teams in the conference. We still have a long road to go and we have to take it one game at a time. It was a very exciting for us to get a great win and hopefully we can build from.”
Junior forward Zach Williams
“We did a good job staying out of foul trouble tonight. We took advantage of the mismatches on us and were able to put points on the board. They (Indiana) like to shoot a lot of 3-pointers and we did a good job on getting out on their shooters. Brent (Darby) really started shooting the ball well early on and that opened up our big men on the interior for some easy buckets.”
On the fans:
“They had a tremendous impact on the game. Once we get more into Big Ten play, every game becomes bigger.”
