Volleyball Ranked Ninth Nationally by USA Today/AVCA Poll – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team is ranked ninth in the 2002 preseason USA TODAY/American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll announced Monday. The Buckeyes are the highest-ranked squad in the Big Ten and is of five conference teams ranked in the Top 25, leading all conferences.
This season Ohio State will face a total of seven teams currently ranked in the Top 25 Poll. The Buckeyes will open the season against No. 5 Hawaii, No. 21 Colorado and No. 11 UCLA in Hawaii at the 15th Annual Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic, Aug. 30-Sept. 1. OSU also will face four Big Ten squads ranked in the Top 25. These include No. 10 Wisconsin, No. 15 Michigan State, No. 16 Penn State and No. 19 Illinois. Non-league opponent Texas and conference foes Minnesota and Michigan are listed under others in the poll.
OSU’s No. 9 ranking marks the third time the Buckeyes have begun the season in the Top 10. OSU was ranked fifth in the opening poll in 1994 and 10th in 1995.
