17th OSU Pro-Am Golf Classic Raises 70,000 dollars – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Alumni from the Ohio State men’s and women’s golf programs returned to The OSU Scarlet Course Monday for the 17th Annual Buckeye Pro-Am Classic. The tournament, which benefits the OSU Golf Scholarship Fund and course improvements, raised more than $70,000 this year for the men’s and women’s golf programs, Denny Hoobler, OSU assistant athletics director for development, said.
Former Buckeyes Chris Smith (1988-91) and Suzy Green (1986-89) co-chaired the 2002 event.
More than $1.5 million has been raised since the Pro-Am’s inception with most directed toward endowed scholarships. The remaining proceeds have been used for improvements to The OSU Scarlet and Gray courses.
Other alumni joining Smith and Green were: Ted Tryba (1986-89), Chris Perry (1981-84), John Cook (1977-79), Gary Nicklaus (1988-91), Steve Runge (1990-92), Joey Sindelar (1978-81), Chris Wollmann (1994-97), Cathy Kratzert-Gerring (1981-83), Rosie Jones (1978-81), Lisa Strom (1998-00), Amy Langhals (1994-97), Summerset Lovett (1995-99), Ed Sneed (1965-66) and Tom Weiskopf (1962).
Sixteen groups participated in the 2002 Pro Am. Rosie Jones led her group, which consisted of Bill Keethler, Archie Griffin, Billy Keethler and Pandel Savic, to the title with a score of 21-under.
Chris Perry’s group (Bill Schenck, Denny Gump, Ron Keller and Dave Chicarelli) finished second at 19-under. Chris Smith led Tim Doran, Steve Nicklaus, Jeff Brindley and Keith Whann to a third-place finish at 18-under. John Cook and his group (John McKitrick, Arlene McKitrick, Randy Shrout and Tyler Levi) also finished at 18-under but finished fourth in a scorecard tiebreaker.
