17th Annual Pro-Am Golf Classic To Be Held July 8 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Alumni from the Ohio State men’s and women’s golf programs will return to the Scarlet Course Monday, July 8, for the 17th Annual Buckeye Pro-Am Classic. The tournament, which benefits the OSU Golf Scholarship Fund and course improvements, begins at 10 a.m. Admission to the event is free. Former Buckeyes Chris Smith (1988-91) and Suzy Green (1986-89) will co-chair the 2002 event.
More than $1.5 million has been raised since the Pro-Am’s inception with most directed toward endowed scholarships. The remaining proceeds have been used for improvements to The OSU Scarlet and Gray courses.
Other alumni joining Smith and Green will be: Ted Tryba (1986-89), Chris Perry (1981-84), John Cook (1977-79), Gary Nicklaus (1988-91), Steve Runge (1990-92), Joey Sindelar (1978-81), Chris Wollmann (1994-97), Cathy Kratzert-Gerring (1981-83), Rosie Jones (1978-81), Lisa Strom (1998-00), Amy Langhals (1994-97), Summerset Lovett (1995-99), Ed Sneed (1965-66) and Tom Weiskopf (1962).
Therese Hession, Ohio State women’s golf coach, said the event is instrumental in building the endowment program for the golf teams.
“The Buckeye Pro-Am has been most helpful in allowing us to achieve our goal of endowing our golf team scholarships,” Hession said. “We always are very appreciative of our alumni coming back to support their teams. It also is a lot of fun to catch up and spend time with our professionals.”
Jim Brown, OSU men’s golf coach, said fans at this event are afforded a rare glimpse of professionals up close.
“The Pro-Am is a rare opportunity for golf fans to get a little closer to their favorite Ohio State touring professionals,” Brown said. “The course will not be roped off like a tour event, allowing fans to walk the fairways with the players.
“This is one of our premier events with many of our former players coming back from the pro tours to help raise money for scholarships,” Brown said “Everybody looks forward to it. The admission is free and we hope to have a lot of people at the tournament.”
