Buckeyes Qualify for U.S. Gymnastics Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio -Buckeyes Randy Monahan (So., Elizabethtown, Pa.), Kerry Adderly (So., Orlando, Fla.) qualified for the 2002 U.S. Gymnastics Championship following their performances at the National Qualifier June 29 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Former Buckeye Blaine Wilson, who already was qualified for the national championships, placed first in the competition.
Wilson, returning to competition following shoulder surgery and rehabilitation, placed first with a score of 55.7. Monahan was 19th in the all-around (51.225), while Adderly was 21st (50.525).
Dick Huntwork (Sr., Pickerington, Ohio) finished 26th (50.150) and Jamey Houle (Jr., Enfield, Conn.) placed 27th (50.000) in the competition.
The U.S. Gymnastics Championships will be held in Cleveland, Aug. 7-10. The U.S. Championships serve as a step in the qualification procedure for the 2002 Individual Gymnastics World Championships, which will be held November 20-24 in Debrecen, Hungary.
