OSU’s Bhavsar Earns Verizon Academic All-District Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio-Ohio State junior gymnast Raj Bhavsar (Houston, Texas/Cypress Academy) was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District IV Men’s At-Large Second Team.
The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America within the district.
Bhavsar, a biology major, carries a 3.34 grade point average and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. He is also a three-time OSU Scholar Athlete. This season the Houston native was the NCAA and Big Ten All-Around Champion helping, his squad win its second consecutive Big Ten title and finish second at the NCAA championships. He earned three All-America honors at the NCAA championships for all-around, vault and pommel horse giving him a total of seven for his career.
During the conference season Bhavsar was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week three consecutive weeks, was crowned Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and earned his third All-Big Ten selection. He became the first gymnast since the scoring change following the 2000 Olympic Games to break the 56.00 point barrier as he posted an all-around score of 56.200 on March 9 against Minnesota and Iowa. Bhavsar won every all-around competition he competed during the season (5-0).
