Rowing Concludes Practice Sessions at NCAA Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

Indianapolis, Ind.– The No. 3 Ohio State rowing team concluded its second and final practice session on Thursday at Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis, Ind., the site of the 2002 NCAA Championships.
The team arrived in Indianapolis on Wednesday afternoon and took to the water shortly after 3 p.m., when teams were first allowed to row. Each of Ohio State’s three boats practiced for nearly 90 minutes Wednesday before returning to the hotel to rest after a long day of travel and practice. The Buckeyes arose early on Thursday morning for their second and final practice session which lasted nearly an hour.
Thursday night the team and coaching staff will attend the 2002 NCAA Rowing Championship Banquet where all 12 teams participating in the Division I championship as well as each team participating in the Division II and Division III championships will be in attendance for the annual banquet, which kicks off the festivities of the weekend.
Racing begins at 8 a.m. Friday with heats in the first varsity 8 competition. The Ohio State first varsity 8 will row at 8:30 in the third and final heat of the preliminary round against No. 9 California, No. 16 Cornell, No. 8 Princeton and rival No. 5 Michigan. If the Buckeyes finish either first or second in the heat, they will advance immediately to the event’s semifinals Saturday. If the boat finishes any lower than second, it will be forced to compete in the event’s repechage at 4 p.m. Friday.
