COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Ohio State men’s golf team is 14th after two rounds of the 2002 NCAA West Regional golf tournament being played at the University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. The par 72 course measures 7,368 yards.
The Buckeyes fired a 298 Friday to follow a 295 Thursday for a tournament total of 593, just four shots out of the Top 10 teams in the event. UNLV is the leader after 36 holes with rounds of 290-292=582.
Ohio State sophomore Zach Doran (Dublin, Ohio/Columbus, Ohio) is 1-under (71-72=143) for the tournament to lead the Buckeyes. He is tied for sixth overall.
Ricky Barnes of Arizona shot a 5-under 67 Friday to take the individual lead with a two-round total of 137 (-7) after a 2-under 70 Thursday.
The 54-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes Saturday.
The Buckeyes must finish among the Top 10 teams of the 27 squads in the west regional to advance to the 2002 NCAA Championships May 29-June 1 in Columbus. That event will be played at The OSU Scarlet Course (7,236, par 71).
Two other regional competitions also are underway in the East and Central regions. Ten teams from each region along with the top two individuals not on one of the qualifying teams will advance to play for the national title in Columbus.
