Women’s Lacrosse Defeats St. Bonaventure, 18-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (2-0) women’s lacrosse squad defeated St. Bonaventure (0-2) 18-1 Saturday afternoon in a game played in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Most of the game was played in driving rain and strong winds. OSU’s Noemi Hites (So., Pleasanton, Calif.) tallied four points to lead all scorers with three goals and an assists. Lauren Cochran (Sr., Coatesville, Pa.) added three goals for the Buckeyes while Tracey Bounds (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.), Caroline Weatherill (So., Malvern, Pa.), Megan Mirick (Sr., Burke, Va.) and Amy Tulk (So., West Chester, Pa.) had two goals each. St. Bonaventure’s lone goal was scored by Emily Lilyea (Jr., Penn Yan, N.Y.).
OSU’s Mirick opened the scoring with the first two goals of the game. Alexiz Vogler (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.), with an assist from Regina Oliver (Fr., Pottstown, Pa.) made it 3-0. A goal by Weatherill and consecutive tallies by Lauren Cochran, the second assisted by Bounds raised the score to 6-0. Weatherill’s second goal and one by Bounds made it 8-0. Hites scored with an assist from Oliver and Tulk added a goal, assisted by Hites to make it 10-0. Hites scored her second goal of the game to make it 11-0 at halftime.
Buckeye L. Cochran opened the scoring in the second half, her third of the game. Bounds added her second goal and Hites, her third, to make it 14-0. Oliver made it 15-0 with an assist from Melissa Sands (Fr., Fallston, Md.). Tulk responded with her second goal of the game and with a Kylee Reade (Sr., London, Ontario) goal, the Buckeyes were ahead, 17-0. The Bonnies cracked OSU’s defense with a goal by Lilyea. Ohio State closed out the scoring with a goal by Molly McLaughlin (So., Towson, Md.), assisted by Tulk, for the final 18-1 score. OSU’s Erin Forquer (Fr., Shaker Heights, Ohio) started in goal for the Buckeyes and had eight saves in 43-plus minutes (43:28). Allison Blanton (Sr., Newton, N.J.) played the final 16-plus minutes (16:32) giving up the lone St. Bonaventure goal and recording one save. Katy Jensen (Jr., Penn Yan, N.Y.) started in goal for the Bonnies and played 36-plus minutes (36:24), giving up 14 goals and recording three saves. Krystal Winchek (Fr., Oswego, N.Y.) played 23-plus minutes (23:36) in goal for St. Bonaventure and gave up four goals and had one save.
Ohio State completes a three-game home stand with a 3:30 p.m. game, Monday, March 11 against Monmouth (0-1) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
