COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (5-0, 1-0 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse squad opened conference play with a 16-4 victory at Northwestern (1-2, 0-1) Saturday Afternoon. OSU’s Caroline Weatherill (So., Malvern, Pa.) provided the Buckeye offense with four goals with Shannon Wilson (Jr., Sherkston, Ontario) adding three.
The Buckeyes opened the scoring with a Wilson goal. Northwestern responded with goals from Erin Flynn (Fr., Concord, Mass.) and Jenna Gantner (Fr., Long Valley, N.J.) to take a 2-1 lead. Alexia Vogler (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) tied the score at two with a goal and Regina Oliver’s (Fr., Pottstown, Pa.) goal put OSU ahead for good. OSU scored eight unanswered goals to end the scoring in the first half. Six unanswered goals by the Buckeyes opened a 15-2 lead for Ohio State.
OSU’s Tracey Bounds (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) assisted on five goals and added a goal for a six-point game. Buckeye goalkeeper Erin Forquer (Fr., Shaker Heights, Ohio) recorded eight saves in the game with Wildcat Ashley Gersuk (Fr., Loudonville, N.Y.) collected 10 saves.
Ohio State continues the two-game road trip when the Buckeyes play Delaware (2-3) at 1 p.m., Monday, March 25. The game will be played at Notre Dame.
