Women’s Lacrosse Now 3-0 After 18-7 Victory Over Monmouth – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$The Ohio State (3-0) women’s lacrosse squad continued undefeated with an 18-7 victory over Monmouth (0-3) at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Monday afternoon. OSU’s Megan Mirick (Sr., Burke, Va.) contributed six goals and an assist with Tracey Bounds (Jr., Ellicott City, Md) and Amy Tulk (So., West Chester, Pa.) scoring three goals each. Beka Murphy (Sr., Northfield, Vt.) had a team-high four goals for Monmouth with Stacy Sydio (So., Horseheads, N.Y.) adding two and Sheph LaGrossa (Sr., Glenolden, Pa.) one.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes opened the scoring with two goals in the first minute. Bounds tallied at 0:33 and Mirick at 0:42 to open the scoring. Mirick made it 3-0 at 5:09 with an assist from Alexia Vogler (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.). Vogler made it 4-0 at 8:30. Bounds scored at 9:04 with an assist from Mirick. Mirick tallied her third goal at 10:41 with an assist from Vogler. The Buckeyes opened a 7-0 lead at 11:12 with a third goal by Bounds. The Hawks then scored back-to-back goals by Beka Murphy at 16:55 and 21:48. The latter was assisted by Sarah Detar (Fr., Gilbertsville, Pa.). Ohio State responded with Mirick’s fourth goal at 22:02 with an assist by Shannon Wilson (Jr., Sherkston, Ontario). OSU’s Noemi Hites (So., Pleasanton, Calif.) scored at 25:42 to make the score, 9-2, Ohio State. Monmouth responded with a goal by Sydio at 27:03. The Buckeyes closed out the half with Tulk goal at 28:06 to lead 10-3.%^$
%^$Ohio State opened the scoring in the second half with a goal by Regina Oliver (Fr., Pottstown, Pa.) at 34:34 with an assist to Vogler. Mirick recorded her fifth goal of the game at 36:41 with an assist from Oliver to give the Buckeyes a 12-3 lead. Monmouth goals by LaGrossa at 42:16 and Beka Murphy at 44:44 cut OSU’s lead to seven at 12-5. OSU’s Tulk scored her second goal of the game at 46:02 and Monmouth responded with Sydio’s second goal at 47:43 to make the score, 13-6, Ohio State. The Buckeyes opened up the game by scoring the next five goals. Wilson started the scoring with a goal at 48:13, assisted by Vogler. Tulk scored her third goal of the game at 49:26 and Mirick scored at 52:22 for her sixth goal of the game. Lauren Cochran (Sr., Coatesville, Pa.), with an assist from Caroline Weatherill (So., Malvern, Pa.), scored at 53:25 and Wilson’s second goal of the game came at 55:22 to complete the run and give OSU an 18-6 lead. Beka Murphy closed out the scoring with her fourth goal of the game at 57:15 with an assist to Lisa Cherill (Jr., Voorhees, N.J. for the 18-7 final score.%^$
%^$In goal for Ohio State was Erin Forquer (Fr., Shaker Heights, Ohio), who recorded five saves. Hawk Stacy Makris (Sr., McLean, Va.) had 11 saves for Monmouth.%^$
%^$Ohio State will play their next six matches on the road over the next four weeks. The Buckeyes begin the road trek with a 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 16 game against Boston University (1-1). The game will be played at the College of New Jersey.
