Volleyball Sweeps Tennessee Tech For Second Win – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 16th-ranked Ohio State (2-0) women’s volleyball team defeated Tennessee Tech (1-1) 3-0 (30-18, 30-17, 30-21) in second round action of the Buckeye Invitational. In the second match of the session, Illinois-Chicago (1-1) defeated Ohio (0-2) 3-1 (30-20, 27-30, 30-25, 30-23).
OSU’s Anne Botica (Sr., Windsor, Ontario) and Stacey Gordon (Fr., Oshawa, Ontario) recorded 13 kills each in the 45 minute match. Maggie Stern (Jr., Hilliard, Ohio) had a team-high 8 kills for Tennessee Tech in the first two games before being injured. OSU’s serving proved to be a key in the match as the Buckeyes recorded 19 ace serves to fall just one short of the OSU record of 20, set against Montana in 1985. Shelly Draeger (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) collected a career-high seven of those aces to equal the Ohio State match record held by five others. Ohio State hit .371 for the match to .081 for Tennessee Tech. OSU had a 28-20 advantage in digs and had a 4-2 margin in blocks.
