Buckeyes to Compete at USA Gymnastics Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five Ohio State men’s gymnasts will compete at the 2001 U.S. Gymnastics Championships Aug. 8th and 10th at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. Current Buckeyes Raj Bhavsar (Jr., Houston, Texas), Michael Evans (Jr., Houston, Texas), Jamey Houle (So., Enfield, Conn.) and Dick Huntwork (Jr., Pickerington, Ohio), and former Buckeye Daren Lynch (Londonderry, N.H.), are entered in the competition.
The U.S. Gymnastics Championships will crown national champions in both all-around and individual event finals. The competition will name the 2001 World Championship Team along with the 2001-2002 Senior and Junior National Teams who will represent the U.S. in international competition throughout the year. Spots on the Goodwill Games Team also are at stake.
The men’s senior all-around preliminaries and event finals will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, with the all-around finals at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10.
Evans, Huntwork and Lynch qualified for the national championships based on their performances at the GymJam Qualifier in Santa Barbara, Calif., June 30. Bhavsar qualified for the event because he is a member of the U.S. Senior National Team and Houle was invited to compete at the national event by the men’s gymnastics committee.
