COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sue Stimmel, head women’s lacrosse coach, announced the addition of Michael Scerbo as an assistant coach to her staff beginning July 30.
Scerbo served as the head women’s lacrosse coach at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. He started the women’s lacrosse program in 1997 and quickly developed it into a national contender. The talented coach successfully led his team to a Division II Top 10 national rankings each of the last four seasons. Scerbo also produced numerous All-Americans as well as several members of the Deep South District Team and the North-South Senior All-Star Team.
Scerbo, who chaired the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll Committee, also was a member of the NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Committee. He played a vital role in the development of the newly formed NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse National Tournament, which debuted in the 2001 season. He is regarded as one of the bright and up-and-coming women’s lacrosse coaches in the country as evidenced by the various committees he has served on and with his nomination, by his coaching peers, for the prestigious IWLCA National Division II Coach of the Year Award in 2001.
“Mike is an excellent coach,” Stimmel said. “I know that his experience will have a tremendous impact on our program. We are very fortunate to have him on board.”
Scerbo replaces former assistant coach Dennis Short, who recently accepted the head coaching position at the University of Albany.
