COLUMBUS, Ohio–The No. 7 Ohio State women’s rowing team swept a Regatta against Cincinnati, winning the first and second varsity races as well as the first and second novice races at the Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River.
The OSU first varsity eight won its race with a time 6:40 to Cincinnati’s 7:11. The Buckeye second varsity “A” eight finished with a time of 7:03. The OSU second varsity “B” eight checked in with a time of 7:21. The Bearcat second varsity eight finished with a time of 7:28.
The OSU first novice eight finished with a time of 7:35 to UCs 7:48. The second novice eight, competing in their first race of the season, won with a time of 7:37. Cincinnati finished with a time of 8:28.
“It’s always nice to win,” Andy Teitelbaum, OSU head coach, said. “We are certainly glad to sweep the regatta. Times were a little slower because of the conditions. It was windy out there, but I’m happy with the way we handled the weather.
“I am especially happy for our second novices. This was the first time they were able to race this year. They certainly won their face by an awful lot. That was a good experience for them, starting out their collegiate career.”
OSU plays host to Big Ten foes Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa along with Clemson, Southern California and Kansas next Saturday, April 14, at the Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River.
