Women’s Lacrosse Finishes Up Season – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team (7-6) heads into its final two games of the season. Wednesday April 25 at 4 p.m., the Buckeyes will face Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The Buckeyes then travel to State College, Pa. where they take on the No.12 Penn State Nittany Lions at Noon on Friday.%^$
%^$Last Week
%^$The Buckeyes fell Friday to the Vanderbilt Commodores, 10-9, in their last home game of the season. The dreary weather didn’t discourage the Buckeyes, who fought hard to bridge the gap of 7-3 after a slow first half.%^$
%^$Ohio State was led in scoring by Erin Andersen who tallied three of her four goals in the second half and by Megan Mirick who netted three goals of her own.%^$
%^$Cianfrani Two Shy
%^$Senior Captain Celeste Cianfrani is two points away from being Ohio State’s all-time points leader. She has 132 points and needs 133 to tie and 134 to surpass the record held by Mara Simpson.%^$
%^$OSU’s Captain
%^$Taking over the captain’s duties this season is senior Celeste Cianfrani. She was the team’s leading point scorer last season with 46 points on 25 goals and 21 assists.%^$
%^$The Coach
%^$Coach Sue Stimmel is entering her sixth season as head women’s lacrosse coach at Ohio State. She has compiled a 36-33 mark in her five years.%^$
%^$In the program’s first year as a varsity sport, Stimmel led OSU to a respectable 5-5 record. During her five-year tenure, Buckeye lacrosse players have gained academic all-conference honors 25 times and have been named OSU Scholar-Athletes 49 times.%^$
%^$Stimmel came to Ohio State from Denison University, where she guided the Big Red to a 76-24 record during her career.%^$
%^$A 1984 graduate of Temple University, Stimmel received her degree in mathematics. She was a four-year starter and a member of Temple’s national championship teams in 1982 and 1984. She was named Regional All-American and was invited to the U.S. Olympic trials.%^$
%^$Scouting Notre Dame
%^$Notre Dame goes into the weekend with a 8-4 record overall. Sunday, the Irish fell to No. 5 Georgetown, 17-7.%^$
%^$Notre Dame’s Coach
%^$Head Coach Tracy Coyne is in her fifth season at the helm of Notre Dame lacrosse. Her arrival marked the beginning of women’s lacrosse for the Irish. Prior to her experience at Notre Dame, Coyne worked with the Canadian National Lacrosse Team.%^$
%^$The Series
%^$Ohio State leads the series, 3-1. Last season, the Buckeyes defeated Notre Dame, 10-9.%^$
%^$Scouting Penn State
%^$The 12th ranked Nittany Lions are 7-9 overall. Penn State is coming off a 13-5 victory over Lafayette University.%^$
%^$Nittany Lions’ Coach
%^$Suzanne Weinberg is in her first season at the helm of Penn State’s women’s lacrosse program. Weinberg is no stranger to the Penn State lacrosse program. She played for the Nittany Lions from 1992-1995. Upon graduating she took an assistant coaching job with Penn State before getting offered the head coaching position at Drew University. Weinberg compiled a record of 56-15 while at Drew.%^$

%^$Ohio State looks to notch its first victory over the Nittany Lions. OSU trails the Penn State series 0-4. Last season, Penn State defeated OSU 16-5. Tracey Bounds recorded a hat trick for the Buckeyes.
