After Taking Two Titles Men’s Golf Is On A Roll–Next Stop, Michigan State – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio— The Buckeyes battled rainy conditions at the OSU Scarlet Course (par 71), April 14-15 to finish first at the Kepler Intercollegiate which featured competition from 17 teams, nine from the Big Ten. The Buckeyes made a comeback from their fourth place position after round two to take the title after a tremendous team effort in round three.
OSU’s team score was, 298-298-297=893 for the tournament title. This is the Buckeyes’ second title in a row this season. The Buckeyes’ have not taken two tournament titles or a Kepler title since 1998. The win at the Kepler was the Buckeyes’ 22nd in that tournament’s history.
Kevin Hall (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Rita) shot a one-under-par 70 in round Two and had an outstanding performance throughout at the Kepler to finish the competition in second place (219). This was only Hall’s second collegiate tournament. He finished right behind Luke Donald of Northwestern who scored 212 (-1), who has won back-to-back Big Ten Player of the week honors.
Mike Austin (Sr., Burton, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic) was the next best OSU finisher in a tie for sixth place scoring, 71-74-77=222. Jason Oien (Jr., New Albany, Ohio/ Westerville North) tied for 13th place, scoring 72-79-73=224. Justin Collins (So., Ironton, Ohio/Ironton) finished with a three-round total of 229 and fired his lowest score of 74 in round 3 for 30th place. Ryan Dennis (Jr., Stow, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) finished in a tie for 56th place shooting a three-round total of 237.

The Buckeyes next compete at the Fossum Invitational, hosted by Michigan State at Lansing Mich., April 28-29.
After the Fossum the Buckeyes travel to the Big Ten Championship hosted by the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill., May 4-6. There the Buckeyes will vie for a bid in the NCAA Regional Tournament, May 17-19 at Stillwater, Okla. The NCAA Championship is May 30-June 2 at Durham, N.C.
