Women’s Lacrosse Takes On Vanderbilt – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team (7-5) plays host to Vanderbilt University at 4 p.m. Friday. The contest will take place at Jesse Owen Memorial Staduim and will be the last home game of the season.%^$
%^$Last Week%^$
The Buckeyes were victorious Sunday, against the Virginia Tech Hokies, 11-5. The contest was played on a water-logged Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium field. Despite the bad weather, the Buckeyes were able to maintain a consistent lead throughout the game.%^$ Ohio State was led in scoring by Tracey Bounds, who netted four goals in the second half, and by Shannon Wilson who contributed three goals of her own. Goalie Megan Barnett helped keep the Hokies at bay by stopping nine shots.%^$
%^$Seniors’ Last Home Game%^$
Captain Celeste Cianfrani, Erin Andersen, Lindsay Kolesar and Stacey Williams will play their final game in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. In their four seasons, the senior corp has compiled a record of 32-26.%^$
Cianfrani has moved into the No. 1 spot for career goals for OSU with 85. She needs just one point to surpass Mara Simpson’s record of 133 points.%^$
Coming off an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear from last season, Erin Andersen’s 19 points ranks third for the Buckeyes this season on 16 goals and three assists.%^$
In the 2000 season Lindsay Kolesar recorded one goal and one assist in five games for the Buckeyes. So far this season, she has a total of three points on two goals and one assist.%^$
Backup goalie Stacey Williams has yet to see action this season for the Buckeyes. Last season, Williams played in two games for a total of 66 minutes recording two saves and giving up two goals.%^$
%^$OSU’s Captain%^$
Taking over the captain’s duties this season is senior Celeste Cianfrani. She was the team’s leading point scorer last season with 46 points on 25 goals and 21 assists.%^$
%^$The Coach%^$
Coach Sue Stimmel is entering her sixth season as head women’s lacrosse coach at Ohio State. She has compiled a 36-33 mark in her five years.%^$
In the program’s first year as a varsity sport, Stimmel led OSU to a respectable 5-5 record. During her five-year tenure, Buckeye lacrosse players have gained academic all-conference honors 25 times and have been named OSU Scholar-Athletes 49 times.%^$
Stimmel came to Ohio State from Denison University, where she guided the Big Red to a 76-24 record during her career.%^$
A 1984 graduate of Temple University, Stimmel received her degree in mathematics. She was a four-year starter and a member of Temple’s national championship teams in 1982 and 1984. She was named Regional All-American and was invited to the U.S. Olympic trials.%^$
Scouting Vanderbilt%^$
Vanderbilt goes into the weekend with a 2-9 record overall. Saturday the Commodores were defeated by No. 6-ranked North Carolina after a close game on Saturday, 9-5.%^$
The Commodores Coach%^$
Head Coach Cathy Swezey is in her fourth season at the helm of Vanderbilt lacrosse. Since her arrival in 1997, Swezey’s Commodores have steadily improved. Her teams’ recent success earned her a nomination for National Coach of the Year, by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.%^$
Prior to her arival at Vanderbilt, Swezey coached at James Madison University and her alma mater, Trenton State College.%^$

Ohio State trails Vanderbilt in the series 1-4. Last season, the Buckeyes were defeated by Vanderbilt, 7-9. Kylee Reade led the Buckeyes with two goals.%^$

Next week, the Buckeyes head to South Bend, Ind. to face Notre Dame April 25.
