%^$The Ohio State men’s golf team will travel to Santa Cruz, Calif. for the Western Intercollegiate, April 2-3. The tournament is hosted by San Jose State University at the Pasatiempo Golf Course (6,445 yards, par 70). The Buckeyes took the title last time at the Western Intercollegiate in 1997.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes will look for competition from California, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbera, Fresno State, Hawaii, Kansas, Long Beach State, Nevada, Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific, Pepperdine, San Diego State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Stanford, and Washington.%^$
%^$Fresno State posted a score of 838 last year for the tournament record and title. Jason Allred of Pepperdine was the 2000 medalist, breaking the individual record with the score of 199.%^$

%^$The Buckeys will play in the Marshall Intercollegiate Invitational, April 6-7, hosted by Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.%^$

%^$The Buckeyes last played at the Chris Shenkel Invitational, March 24-25, in Statesboro, Ga., hosted by Georgia Southern.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes finished in 15th place, shooting a three-round total of 900. Finishing first for the Buckeyes was Jason Oien (Jr., New Albany, Ohio/Westerville, Ohio), scoring 76-71-74=221 (+5) to tie for 35th place. David Wagenseller (Jr., Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) recorded the Buckeyes’ low round Sunday, shooting one-over par 73 to finish with a 222 (T40th). Mike Austin (Sr., Burton, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic) finished with a 230 and Ryan Dennis (Jr., Stow, Ohio/ Walsh Jesuit) carded a 232. Justin Collins (So., Ironton, Ohio/Ironton) finished with a three-round total of 236.%^$
%^$Austin Holds Career Low Round
%^$Mike Austin keeps improving every year and the 2001 season is no exception. Austin shot his career-low round at the Gator Invitational, Feb. 10-11. He shot a 65 in the first round beating his previous record of 66. Austin also holds the team record for lowest round and is tied with David Wagenseller for the lowest tournament this season, scoring 208, also at the Gator Invitational.%^$
%^$Kepler Tourney On The Way
%^$On April 14-15 the Buckeyes host the 32nd annual Kepler Intercollegiate, named for the late Robert Kepler, OSU’s golf coach from 1938-1965. The Kepler is played on the Ohio State Scarlet Course (par 72, 7,251). The Buckeyes have won the title 19 times, including six straight between 1974-79.%^$
%^$Oien Shows Improvement
%^$Oien has had a strong showing for the Buckeyes this season. He has competed in all but one tournament for the Buckeyes and was OSU’s top finisher at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Sept. 18-19, scoring 224, and at the Chris Schenkel Invitational, March 24-25, scoring 221.%^$Oien carded his career-low round of 68 this season at the Gator SunTrust Invitational, Feb. 10-11.%^$
%^$For the past five tournaments Oien has finished in one of the top three spots for the Buckeyes.%^$
%^$Brown Approaches 5,000 Wins
%^$As the head coach of the men’s golf team in his 28th season, Jim Brown has been with the Buckeyes longer than any other coach on the Ohio State coaching staff. Brown is approaching his 5,000th career win for Ohio State. His record stands at 4,933-1,196-25. His best season at the helm of the Buckeyes was in 1982-83 when he led the Buckeyes to a Big Ten title with a season record of 237-3-0.%^$
%^$Under Brown, OSU has won 16 Big Ten titles and placed second in the conference eight times. Last season OSU won the First Energy Intercollegiate Invitational, giving Brown 151 tournament wins in his career. Brown led the Buckeyes to a National Championship in 1979.
