Men’s Gymnastics Falls to Oklahoma 217.300-215.400 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Buckeyes dropped to 12-4 on the year after finishing second against No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 12 Stanford in Norman, Okla. The Sooners recorded the highest team score the NCAA has seen this year, putting up 217.300 points. The Buckeyes have averaged 211.285 points in away meets, but came together to produce their best away score of the season with 215.300 points. Stanford took third in the meet with 206.750 points.
Jamie Natalie (Sr., Hockessin, Del.) and Raj Bhavsar (So., Houston, Texas) stepped up and led the Buckeyes. Natalie, the nation’s second best all-arounder, won that competition with a score of 54.200. He also took first on horizontal bar (9.550), second on vault (9.250), fourth on rings (9.200) and fourth on floor (9.050).
Bhavsar finished just .300 points behind Natalie to claim second on all-around with a score of 53.900. Bhavsar won parallel bars with a 9.150, took third on vault (9.200) and third on pommel horse (9.100). Daren Lynch (Sr., Londonderry, N.H.) placed second on rings with a score of 9.550 and finished fourth on vault with a 9.100. Natalie, Bhavsar and Lynch finished 2-3-4 on vault behind Stanford’s Dan Gill, marking the only event without a Sooner in the Top 4. Oklahoma also did not have a representative among the Top 5 all-arounders.
Other notable Buckeye performers include Ryan Schwartkopf (So., Columbus, Ind) who tied for fourth on pommel horse (8.950), Michael Evans (So., Houston, Texas) and Earnest Nelson (Jr., Rowlett, Texas). Evans and Nelson finished fourth and fifth respectively on horizontal bar, to help the Buckeyes claim three of the Top 5 spots on that apparatus.
