COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$Tenth-ranked Ohio State (18-2 overall, 10-2 Big Ten) women’s volleyball squad defeated Northwestern (8-11, 4-6) 3-0 Saturday night in front of 884 fans in St. John Arena. The 30-22, 30-13, 30-15 victory was marked with a 16-kills, 12-dig performance by Anne Botica (Sr., Windsor, Ontario) for Ohio State. Stacey Gordon (Fr., Oshawa, Ontario) added 15 kills and seven digs for the Buckeyes. Molly Kamp (So., Stevensville, Mich.) and Jill Buschur (Fr., New Bremen, Ohio) had eight kills each for the Wildcats.%^$
%^$Tied nine-nine, Northwestern took a 10-9 lead off an OSU error. After ties at 11 and 12, the Buckeyes scored four straight points with kills from Botica and Gordon, a block by Suzie Stiling (Jr., Glenview, Ill.), Gordon and Katie Virtue (Jr., St. Charles, Ill.) and a Wildcat error to take a 16-12 lead. Ohio State held the lead and won the game 30-22. The Buckeyes hit .421 for the game to .111 for Northwestern. Botica collected eight kills for OSU with Kamp having five for the Wildcats.%^$
%^$From a 3-3 tie in game two, Ohio State, with kills from Gordon and Stiling, an ace serve by Botica and a NU error opened a 7-3 lead. The Buckeyes expanded the lead to the final 30-13 mark. The Buckeyes hit .531 for the game to .125 for Northwestern. OSU’s Botica and Gordon had six kills each in the game.%^$
%^$In game three, the Buckeyes broke a one-all tie with a Gordon kill and two Botica aces to take a 4-1 lead. The Wildcats closed to 5-4, but a NU service error, kills by Erin Baker (Sr., Elmhurst, Ill) , Shelly Draeger (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.) and Gordon, a block by Baker and an ace by Virtue opened up an 11-4 Buckeye lead. The Buckeye continued on to a 30-15 win. Ohio State hit .577 for the game to .000 for the Wildcats. Gordon and Baker collected four kills each in the game for OSU.%^$
%^$Ohio State hit .500 for the match to .088 for Northwestern. The Buckeyes had a 55 to 27 advantage in kills and outdug the Wildcats, 35 to 23. OSU had a nine to two advantage in aces with Virtue and Botica picking up three each. Ohio State outblocked the Wildcats, six to one with Stiling recording a match-high four assist blocks.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes return to the road for the next four matches. OSU travels to Penn State (16-4, 9-3) on Wednesday and then plays at Purdue Saturday. The 13th-ranked Nittany Lions upset No. 5 Wisconsin (17-3, 11-1) 3-2 (20-30, 28-30, 30-23, 30-26, 15-9) Saturday night. OSU then faces Indiana (Nov. 9) and Illinois (Nov. 10).
