19th-Ranked Women’s Volleyball Tames Northwestern 15-2, 15-2, 15-8 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$The 19th-ranked Ohio State women’s volleyball team, behind a match-high 12 kills by Suzie Stiling (So., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), defeated Northwestern 3-0 (15-2, 15-2, 15-8) Saturday night in Welsh-Ryan Arena. Dana Stearns (Sr., Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) and Sue Calligaris (So., Palermo, Italy/Liceo Linguistico) added seven kills each as Ohio State improved its record to 14-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten. Northwestern (4-10, 1-3) had a team-high seven kills from Molly Kamp and six from Lindsay Pavlik and Sarah Ballog.%^$
%^$After Northwestern tied game one at two on a Erika Lange kill, Ohio State scored the next 13 points to take the game 15-2. Ten Northwestern errors contributed points to the Buckeyes. OSU hit .450 for the game to -.250 for Northwestern. Buckeye Stiling was seven-for-seven in kills in the game.%^$
%^$Ohio State opened a 4-0 lead in game two and held a 5-2 lead before scoring the next 10 points to win the game 15-2. Northwestern contributed eight points off errors in the game. The Buckeyes hit .600 for the game to .167 for the Wildcats. OSU’s Stiling had five kills in the game while Calligaris added four.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes took a 6-0 lead in game three and went up 9-2 with a Shelly Draeger (So., Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) ace serve. An OSU error and a kill by Kamp cut the lead to 9-4. An NU error made the OSU lead 10-4. Northwestern cut the lead to 10-7 off two Buckeye errors and a Pavlik kill. A Wildcat error and an ace serve by Katie Virtue (So., St. Charles, Ill./St. Francis) put the Buckeyes ahead 12-7. A Buckeye error cut the margin to 12-8. A block by Draeger and Stiling and two Wildcat errors closed the game at 15-8. OSU hit .057 for the game to -.021 for Northwestern.%^$
%^$For the match Ohio State hit .325 to -.021 for Northwestern. The Buckeyes had a 39-29 advantage in kills, a 29-20 margin in digs and outblocked Northwestern 12 to five. OSU had a four to one advantage in ace serves.%^$
%^$Ohio State returns to St. John Arena next week for a pair of 7 p.m. matches against Purdue Friday, Oct. 6 and Illinois Saturday, Oct. 7.
