Women’s Volleyball Opens Season With 3-0 Win Over Colgate – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team opened the 2000 season with a 3-0 (15-3, 15-2, 15-8) win over Colgate (0-1) in the opening day of the Temple Volleyball Classic. Anne Botica (Jr., Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph) and Sue Calligaris (So., Palermo, Italy/Liceo Linguistico) had nine kills each for the Buckeyes (1-0) while Suzie Stiling (So., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and Shelly Draeger (So., Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added eight each. Botica added a career-high five ace serves against the Red Raiders. Lisa Breiner of Colgate had a team high eight kills with Amanda Routman adding six.
As a team Ohio State hit .234 for the match to .038 for Colgate. Each squad had five blocks while OSU had an 11 to one advantage in ace serves. OSU collected 30 digs with Nikki Cisco (Jr., Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and Dana Stearns (Sr., Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) picking up six each while the Red Raiders had 15.
Ohio State continues play at the Temple Volleyball Classic Saturday facing Seton Hall at 10 a.m. and Temple at 5:30 p.m.
