Women’s Lacrosse Topples Gannon in Season Opener – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Attackers Erin Andersem (Jr., Huntington, N.Y.), Celeste Cianfrani (Jr., Telford, Pa.), Shannon Wilson (Fr., Crystal Beach, Ont.) and midfielder Trish Derwart (So., Ellicott City, Md.) each scored three goals, leading the Ohio State Buckeyes over the Gannon Lady Knights, 20-6 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Sunday. Cianfrani recorded a game-high six points, off three goals and three assists. Gannon falls to 2-1 overall, while the Buckeyes start the season 1-0.
The Buckeyes started the game quickly, scoring the first six goals within the first eight minutes. Gannon scored its first goal at the 22:03 mark off a shot from Carrie DiBasio. The Buckeyes extended their lead at the break, leading 13-2. OSU continued to play well in the second half, outscoring the Lady Knights, 7-4.
The Lady Knights were led by Carrie DiBasio and Stacey Renolds who each contributed two goals. Reynolds also added an assist.
Buckeye goalie Megan Barnett (So., Charlottesville, Va.) played all 60 minutes and recorded six saves. Gannon goalie Megan Hallock also played all 60 minutes and recorded nine saves.
The Buckeyes return to action Friday, March 10, traveling to Virginia Tech. The Buckeyes will return home to take on Bucknell Sunday, March 12 in a 1 p.m. game. The game against Bucknell will be played at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
