Morgan Finalist for Nissen-Emery Award – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s gymnast Michael Morgan (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) was a finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award, given today at the pre-NCAA Championships Press Conference in Iowa City, Iowa. The honor is given annually to the year’s outstanding senior men’s collegiate gymnast and was won this year by Jeff Lavallee of the University of Massachusetts.
Morgan, an art major, is ranked ninth (tied) in the floor exercise, 13th (tied) on the vault and 19th in the all-around in the country this season. He returned to competition after missing last year with a left wrist injury. He was an All-American in the all-around as a junior in 1998 and placed third on the vault at this year’s Big Ten Championships.
Morgan and the rest of the Buckeyes will compete in the NCAA qualifying session tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. Other teams in Ohio State’s session include: Michigan, Penn State, Illinois, Nebraska and Massachusetts. The top three teams from each of two sessions will advance to the NCAA Championships held Friday at 8 p.m. The individual finals will be held Saturday at 3 p.m.
