Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Virginia Tech – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Virginia Tech’s Dawn Will scored five goals, and Courtney Hubbard finished with two goals and three assists to lead the Hokies to a 13-10 victory over Ohio State, Friday, at the Johnson-Miller Complex. Ohio State falls to 1-1 on the season, while Virginia Tech evens their record at 1-1.
Tech started the game with a 3-0 lead with goals from Karen Diacont, Hubbard and Kate Bjorke. Ohio State scored its first goal when Trish Derwart (So., Ellicott City, Md.) scored form a Celeste Cianfrani (Jr., Telford, Pa.) assist with 7:45 remaining in the first half. Derwart and Megan Mirick (So., Burke, Va.) each scored before the end of the half, cutting the Tech lead to 4-3.
Tracey Bounds (Fr., Ellicott City, Md.) scored for Ohio State off an assist from Mirick, cutting the lead to 8-5 at the 20:53 mark in the second half. Tech scored four-straight times, pushing the lead to 12-5, with three goals from Will and one from Katie Madden. The Buckeyes scored four times in the last 6:33 of the game to cut the Tech lead to three, 13-10.
Buckeye goalie Megan Barnett (So., Charlottesville, Va.) played all 60 minutes and recorded 10 saves. Virginia Tech goalie Stacey Rainbolt also played all 60 minutes and finished with 13 saves.
The Buckeyes return to action this Sunday, March 12, hosting Bucknell in a 1 p.m. game. The game will be played at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
