Raj Bhavsar Named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman gymnast Raj Bhavsar (Houston, Texas) was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week today, the conference office announced. It marks the third-straight week an Ohio State gymnast has received the award, as Jamie Natalie claimed the honor the past two weeks.%^$
%^$ Bhavsar led the No. 2 Buckeyes to a win over Oklahoma (Jan. 28), as he claimed two meet titles and set season and career-highs in all five events he competed in. He won the pommel horse title with a 9.85 and was first on the still rings with a team season-best 9.850. Bhavsar also finished second on the parallel bars (9.700), third on the high bar (9.450) and tied for eighth on the floor exercise (9.400).%^$
%^$ Bhavsar is ranked in the national Top 10 in three events. He is fourth on the still rings, ranks fifth (tied) on the pommel horse and sixth (tied) on the parallel bars.%^$
%^$ The second-ranked Buckeyes open their home season by hosting Big Ten foes No. 1 Michigan and No. 3 Illinois Saturday night in St. John Arena at 7 p.m. It will be a co-ed meet, as the women’s team goes up against the Fighting Illini.%^$
