Women’s Volleyball Blocked Out By Nebraska In NCAA Central Regional Semifinals – Ohio State Buckeyes

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Ohio State (26-7 overall) women’s volleyball team ran into the solid block of Nebraska and fell to the Cornhuskers 15-9, 15-6, 15-5 in the NCAA Central Regional Semifinals at NU Coliseum. In front of 4,031 fans, Nebraska (31-0), the nations’ top blocking team used its strength to advance to the Regional Championship against Arizona, a 3-0 (15-6, 15-6, 15-9) winner over Brigham Young in the first semifinal.
Nebraska’s Laura Pilakowski had a match-high 15 kills for the Cornhuskers with Angie Oxley and Amber Holmquist adding 10 each. OSU’s Suzie Stiling and Anne Botica had a team-high 10 kills each. Leading the Nebraska blocking was Jenny Kropp with nine assist blocks with Homquist adding eight blocks (one solo and seven assists) and Greichaly Cepero seven (two solo and five assists).
Nebraska opened game one with a 3-0 lead and never trailed to a 15-9 win. The Cornhuskers hit .158 to OSU’s .000. Nebraska had eight blocks in the game.
The Buckeyes opened game two with a 3-0 lead off an ace by Katie Virtue, a Nebraska error and a kill by Dana Stearns. The teams exchanged errors for points making the score 4-1. Nebraska scored five consecutive points to take a 6-4 lead. The Cornhuskers built a 13-4 lead before kills by Stearns and Botica cut the lead to 13-6. A Buckeye error and a kill by Pilakowski ended the game at 15-6. The Cornhuskers hit .368 for the game to .083 for OSU.
A kill by Virtue and a Nebraska error gave Ohio State a 2-0 lead in game three. The Cornhuskers took a 3-2 lead on a block by Holmquist but a Virtue kill tied the game at three. Nebraska went ahead 6-3 and held a 10-5 lead before four blocks by Nebraska and a Buckeye error ended the game at 15-5. Nebraska hit .295 for the game to .128 for Ohio State. The Cornhuskers had eight blocks for the game. For the match Nebraska hit .275 to Ohio State’s .075. The Cornhuskers had the statistical advantage in kills, 49-42, aces 4-1, digs 52-51 and blocks 20-3.
