COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team was an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament and will host first and second round matches in St. John Arena this weekend. Notre Dame (25-6) will play Cincinnati (24-9) Friday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. and Ohio State (24-6) faces Ball State (25-6) at 7 p.m. (or 30 minutes after the completion of the Notre Dame-Cincinnati match, whichever is later) in first round action. The two winners return for a second round match Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
This is the 12th consecutive appearance for Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes, ranked 17th nationally last week, finished fourth in the Big Ten Conference and completed the regular season with a 3-2 (12-15, 14-16, 15-8, 15-13, 18-16) upset victory of No. 7 Minnesota Saturday.
Last year in the NCAA Tournament, Ohio State defeated Notre Dame 3-1 (13-15, 15-10, 16-14, 15-7) in first round action at UCLA. OSU then lost to the Bruins 0-3 (10-15, 12-15, 10-15) in second round play.
Ohio State will be hosting NCAA matches for the seventh time. The Buckeyes last hosted an NCAA match in 1995 when they defeated Maryland 3-1 (12-15, 15-10, 15-11, 15-13) in a second round match.
