Men’s Golf Finishes in 12th Place At Northern Intercollegiate – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Ohio State senior Mike Austin (Burton, Mich/Flint Powers) and sophomore Mike Collins (Ironton, Ohio/Ironton) tied for 27th place to lead the Buckeyes at the Northern Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, hosted by the University of Illinois, over the weekend. Ohio State finished 12th in the 18-team event, held at the 72-par, 7,118-yard Stone Creek Golf Club.
Purdue won the three-round tournament with scores of 291-298-300=889 ahead of Iowa (893) Michigan (897) and Indiana (897). Matt Abbott of Penn State was the tournament medalist and the only golfer under par after rounds of 70-71-74=215. He was one-under par for the tournament.
Ohio State’s Brian Williams (So., Scaneateles N.Y./Scaneateles) was 41st (75-75-80=230) followed by junior David Wagenseller (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) at 46th (74-78-79=231) and junior Jason Oien (New Albany, Ohio/Westerville North) at 76th (81-77-80=238).
The Buckeyes play next at the Red River Classic in Dallas, Texas, Oct. 9-10 before completing the fall schedule at the Iron Duke Classic in Durham, N.C., Oct. 15-16.
Illinois will host the 2001 Big Ten Championships at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana May 4-6.
Duke will host the 2001 NCAA Championships May 30-June 2, 2001.
