COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior goaltender Ray Aho was named the CCHA Defensive Player of the Week today, the league office announced. Aho is the first Ohio State player this season to capture Player of the Week honors.
Aho, a native of Allen Park, Mich., stopped 60-of-64 shots (.938 save percentage) in two games last week, helping Ohio State to a second place finish in the Sheraton/Howard Bank Hockey Classic in Burlington, Vt. Aho allowed just two even strength goals in the two games, which came against host Vermont and Dartmouth. For his efforts, he was the lone goaltender named to the all-Tournament team.
Aho has held opponents to two goals or less in six of his last seven starts, helping Ohio State to a 4-1-2 mark in those games. As a freshman in 1997, he earned CCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors twice (Jan. 18 and Jan. 25).
Ohio State returns to action Friday, Jan. 7, when it hosts Colgate University in Value City Arena.
