COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State gymnast Jamie Natalie (Jr., Hockessin, Del.) was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week today, the conference office announced. It marks the second-straight week Natalie has claimed the honor.
Natalie led the No. 3 Buckeyes to a win over Michigan State (Jan. 22) with his all-around score of 58.175, the highest score in the nation this season. He finished first and tied his career-high on the still rings (9.800) and also won the parallel bars (9.925) and the horizontal bar (9.850). Natalie placed second on the pommel horse with a career-high of 9.900.
In addition to the all-around, Natalie ranks first in the country in the parallel bars and the high bar. He is tied for No. 3 on the pommel horse, No. 4 (tied) in the still rings and No. 7 (tied) on the floor exercise. His all-around score is over a full point ahead of the No. 2 score. The rankings, released by GymInfo Jan. 24, are based on a gymnast’s high score in each event thus far this season.
This week, Natalie shared Athlete of the Week honors with Jon Plante of Michigan State, who set a school record on the pommel horse with a score of 9.950 against the Buckeyes.
Natalie and the Buckeyes will be back in action Friday when they travel to Norman, Okla. to face the Sooners at 7 p.m.
