18th-Ranked Women’s Volleyball Defeats Boise State 3-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – – The 18th ranked Ohio State (5-1) women’s volleyball team defeated Boise State (3-6) in three games, 15-4, 15-5, 15-5 in the home opener for the Buckeyes. OSU’s Rosie Snow scored a match-high 14 kills to extend her consecutive double-figure kill streak to 27 matches. Sue Calligaris and Shelly Draeger connected on eight kills each while Katie Virtue and Dana Stearns had six kills apiece. Boise State’s Becky Meek had a team-high 12 kills and Katy Shepard had a match-high 14 digs for the Boncos.
In game one OSU took advantage of 10 Bronco errors for points for a 15-5 win. The Buckeyes hit .333 for the game to -.023 for Boise State.
Ohio State gained nine points off Boise State errors along with three OSU ace serves by Dana Stearns, Anne Botica and Rosie Snow to win 15-5. The Buckeyes hit .345 to .033 for the Broncos.
Boise State held a 2-1 lead in game three, but the match was tied at two on a Bronco hitting error. The Buckeyes built up a 5-2 lead, but three OSU errors tied the match again at five. Ohio State built up a 9-5 lead on two Bronco errors, a kill by Katie Virtue and an ace serve by Anne Botica. The Buckeyes picked up additional points off three Boise State errors and kills by Sue Calligaris and Shelly Draeger closed the game at 15-5, for a 3-0 sweep by Ohio State. For the game, Ohio State hit .298 to .077 for the Broncos.
Match statistics show Ohio State hitting .298 to .027 for Boise State. OSU had a 55 to 31 advantage in kills and edged the Broncos in blocks, nine to seven and digs, 43 to 42. The Buckeyes collected five ace serves, not allowing Boise State an ace in the match.
Ohio State completes its two-match home stand this Sunday by hosting Temple (4-2) in St. John Arena at 3 p.m. The match is free due to the campus move-in activities.
