Stone Selected as USA World University Games Coach – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The USA Volleyball Office has announced the selection of Jim Stone, Head Coach of the Women’s Volleyball team at Ohio State, as the head coach for the USA Women’s Volleyball team at the World University Games to be held July 2-12 at Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The World University Games is an Olympic style competition, which attracts the top collegiate athletes from around the world in twenty-two events.
The USA women’s team will be composed of the top collegiate volleyball players in the country. Tryouts for the team will take place at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs on April 30th – May 1st, 1999. The members of the team will train at the USOC Training Center in Lake Placid, NY from May 15th through June 15th. After a brief tour in Canada, with the Canadian National team, the United States team will depart for Spain on June 20th.
This will be the third national team which Stone has coached. Previous teams include the Junior National team in 1986 and the USA B team in 1993. Stone was the Division I National Coach of the Year in 1991 and three time Big Ten Coach of the Year. The assistant coaches for the team will be Kathy George, Head Coach at Western Michigan University, and Bob Bertucci, Head Coach at Temple University.
