Buckeyes Down Lady Lakers in Home Opener – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team opened its 1999 season with a 20-4 win over Mercyhurst at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, bringing their overall record to 1-0.
The Buckeyes got the game off to a quick start, when freshman Megan Mirick scored the first goal just 12 seconds into the game. The Buckeye offense continued to go strong the rest of the game, scoring 10 goals in each half.
Ohio State was led by Celeste Cianfrani (So., Telford, Penn.) and Megan Mirick (Fr., Burke, VA) who both scored four goals. Lauren Cochran (Fr., Coatesville, Penn.) added three goals in her Ohio State debut. Mara Simpson (Sr., Worthington, Ohio) and Laurie Rybak (Sr., Worthington, Ohio) both contributed on the offense by scoring one goal and adding three assists each.
The Buckeyes lead the overall series vs. Mercyhurst, 2-0.
The Buckeyes travel to Baltimore, Md., to play the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Cornell Big Red on March 5 and 7, respectively.
