Ohio State Gymnastics Competes in Mixed Pairs Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio— Ohio State freshman gymnasts Raj Bhavsar (Houston, Texas) and Sarah Spring (Burke, Va.) claimed the title in the intersquad Mixed Pairs Championship tonight in St. John Arena. The seventh-annual preseason competition allowed both the men’s and women’s gymanstics squads to prepare for the upcoming regular season.
The team of Bhavsar and Spring won the competition with a combined total of 57.250. After trailing for the first two rounds, the duo edged out Jamie Natalie (Jr., Hockessin, Del.) and Amanda Allen (So., Troy, Mich.) in the championship round of the meet.
The ten pairs competed through two rotations of events, as selected by each gymnast. The top four pairs advanced to the final round to compete for the title. The other finalists were Michael Evans (Fr., Houston, Texas) and Lindsey Vagedes (Jr., Warrenville, Ill.) and the duo of Earnest Nelson (So., Rowlett, Texas) and Jill Tucker (So., Tallmadge, Ohio).
Tucker recorded the high scores for the women’s team, recording a 9.7 on the floor exercise and a 9.725 on the vault. Evans and Natalie led the way for the men, with Evans scoring a 9.65 on the floor and Natalie posting a 9.65 on the pommel horse.
The men will be back in action Jan. 8 when they host the Alumni Exhibition in Larkins Hall. Their regular season opener is at the Windy City Invitational Jan. 15.
The women travel to Michigan State Jan. 8 for a quadrangular meet which includes Oregon State and Louisiana State.
