Women’s Volleyball Drops 0-3 Decision To Indiana – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (12-9 overall, 6-8 Big Ten) women’s volleyball fell to Indiana (15-8, 6-8) in three games Saturday night at University Gym. The 5-15, 10-15, 10-15 Buckeye loss was played in front of 630 fans. OSU’s Suzie Stiling had a team-high 11 kills in the match with Rosie Snow and Shelly Draeger adding 10 each. Jen Flynn and Dana Stearns contributed six kills each with Flynn adding 10 digs. IU’s Ryann Connors had a team-high 11 kills with Amanda Welter adding 10 and Hillary Toivonen eight.
%^$Indiana built up a large lead in game one with the help of five ace serves, three from Erin Heimann, including the game winner for the 15-5 win. Indiana hit .208 for the game to .037 for Ohio State.
%^$Game two saw Indiana build up a 9-4 lead only to have the Buckeyes cut into the lead to close within one at 9-8 on a kill by Shelly Draeger. A Hillary Toivonen ace serve put the lead at two, 10-8. After Indiana went ahead 11-8, OSU close to 11-9 but the Hoosiers opened the margin to five with the final 15-10 win. IU hit .313 for the game to .316 for Ohio State.
%^$Indiana opened a seven-one lead in game three and held a 10-4 margin before two IU errors and a kill by Shelly Draeger cut the lead to 10-7. A kill by IU’s Jill Mudge and an OSU error put Indiana ahead 12-7. Kills by Anne Botica and Jen Flynn and a Hoosier hitting error closed the margin to two at 12-10. Indiana sided out and two kills by Amanda Welter put the Hoosiers at match point at 14-10. IU closed the match at 15-10 on a Ryann Connors kill. Indiana hit .326 for the game to .267 for the Buckeyes.
%^$For the match Indiana hit .294 to .227 for the Buckeyes. The Hoosiers had a 9.5 to five edge in blocks with Cydryce Carter collecting five (1-4) and Jill Mudge adding four assists blocks. Ohio State had the edge in digs, 37 to 27 and in kills, 48 to 45. The Hoosiers served 11 ace serves in the match to only three for Ohio State. Hoosier Erin Heimann had a match high five aces with Hillary Toivonen adding three.
%^$Ohio State returns home next week to face Michigan State Friday night (7 p.m.) in St. John Arena. OSU will face Michigan on Sunday (2 p.m.) in a match that will be delayed cablecast by Fox Sports Chicago on Sunday at 5 p.m. Eastern.%^$
