Women’s Volleyball Falls To Minnesota 3-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Ohio State (15-10 overall, 9-9 Big Ten, tied for fifth) women’s volleyball squad fell to Minnesota (24-7, 14-4, second) Saturday night in the Sports Pavilion in front of 2,361 fans. OSU’s Jen Flynn had a team-high 13 kills with Rosie Snow adding 12 and Anne Botica contributing off the bench with 10. Gopher Nicole Branagh had a match-high 19 kills with Stephanie Hagen adding 16. The Buckeye hit .090 for the match as compared to Minnesota’s .248. The Gophers had a 14 to nine advantage in blocks with Charnette Fair recording a match-high nine assist blocks for Minnesota. The Buckeyes had a 48 to 41 edge in digs with Minnesota’s Branagh picking up a match-high 12 digs with OSU’s Rosie Snow having a team-high nine for the Buckeyes.
Minnesota hit .273 in game one to OSU’s -.194 for a 15-4 win. The Gophers hit .667 (16 kills, no errors on 24 attempts) in game two to OSU’s .118 in a 15-5 Gopher win. Game three saw Ohio State hit .387 to Minnesota’s .053. Ohio State opened a 4-0 lead in the game and quickly built a 10-1 lead with the help of two kills and an ace serve by Anne Botica, a kill and ace by Sue Calligaris, a kill by Dana Stearns and four Minnesota errors. The Gophers cut the lead to 10-3 before another kill by Botica put OSU up 11-3. A Minnesota error and a kill by Rosie Snow pushed the OSU lead to 13-3. Back-to-back blocks by Jen Flynn and Sue Calligaris ended the game for OSU at 15-3. Minnesota broke a 2-2 tied in game four and picked up the game at 15-9. The Gophers hit .184 for the game to .061 for Ohio State.
Ohio State closes out the regular season at home next weekend with Purdue (15-12, 7-11, seventh) Friday and Wisconsin (20-8, 13-5, third) Saturday
