COLUMBUS, Ohio -George Reese, a 6-7, 220-pound sophomore at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill., has signed a national letter of intent to attend The Ohio State University next fall, according to head coach Jim O’Brien.
“We are very happy to have George sign with us,” O’Brien said. “This is not a surprise. We have been anticipating this to happen since he verbally committed to us on Feb. 25. We think that he will help us in the front court because he has the ability to play in and around the basket. He should help our inside scoring as well as provide obvious help in our depth down low.”
Reese, a native of Columbus and a 1995 graduate of Independence High School, was a second team National Junior College Athletic Association All-America this past season after averaging 20.2 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. He hit 58-percent of his field goal attempts (230 of 398) and 68-percent of his free throws (104 of 153). He was also named to the NJCAA All-Region XXIV team and he was the co-MVP of the Gret Rivers Athletic Conference.
Reese averaged 15.0 points per game as a senior at Independence High School in 1995. He signed a letter of intent with South Florida out of high school but left after one year. He attended Columbus State for one season, but did not play basketball, before enrolling at John A. Logan this fall. He will have two seasons of basketball eligibility with the Buckeyes.
