Men’s Gymnastics Tops Michigan State – Ohio State Buckeyes

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Ohio State beat Michigan State 229.875-228.7 which improved the Buckeyes record to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten. Ohio State’s score of 229.875 is the teams season best score and the second best road score of any team in the nation this year.
The Buckeyes won the top four positions in the all-around competition. Ohio State’s Doug Stibel (Jr., Canton Mich.) scored 58.0 and Jamie Natalie (Fr., Hockessin, Del.) scored 57.8 which are both career best marks in the all-around for the two.
The Buckeyes pulled away from the Spartans in a close meet on the high bar, which was the last event of the night. Ohio State scored a season high of 39.30 on the high bar which clinched the victory.
“The routines on the high bar were perfect, every single one,” head coach Miles Avery said. “Michigan State is a tough place to win and we needed our best meet of the season to pull off this victory,” Avery continued.
Ohio State travels to Lincoln, Neb. for the second meet of the season with Nebraska on March 8, at 1 p.m. Ohio State beat Nebraska and Oklahoma in tri-meet in Norman, Okla. on Feb. 6, 1998 by a final score of 227.90-226.60-226.30.
