COLUMBUS, Ohio — – In the program’s first-ever season of offering athletic scholarships, the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team has received national letters of intent from three marquee recruits from the Baltimore area. Josh Tracy (D; Cockeysville Md.), Tony Russo (G; Falston, Md.), and Nick Miceli (MF, Monkton, Md.) have all committed to play lacrosse at Ohio State next season.
“It shows where our program is headed,” Ohio State head coach Joe Breschi said. “The support from Andy Geiger and the rest of the athletic department has allowed us to make a commitment to our athletes. In our first-ever recruiting class, we’re getting some of the best recruits in the country.” Tracy, a versatile defenseman, attends Dulaney High School. He was a first-team high school All-American and second team all-state selection last year. A smaller defenseman (5-11, 165) that relies on his exceptional stickwork, Tracy netted seven goals and 13 assists last season. He also set a school record with 126 ground balls.
“Ohio State is kind of a darkhorse and they have a lot of good things going for them,” Tracy said. “I wanted to be part of starting a winning tradition at Ohio State. They have everything to offer. Coach Breschi was another main reason I decided to attend OSU. He’s been the most honest and up-front with me during the whole recruiting process.”
“Josh can play both long pole and close defense,” Breschi said. “He’s widely considered one of the best defenseman in the country.”
Russo, considered by many as one of the top high school goalies in the country, is in his senior season at Calvert Hall High School.
“He’s the best goalie in Maryland and one of the top goalies in the nation,” Breschi said of Russo. “He’s quick in the net and will be a great asset to a young program like ours.”
Miceli, a midfielder from Loyola High School, has exceptional speed and can excel on both offense and defense. He was selected to play lacrosse in the Bay State Games last year. He is considered one of the quickest players in the Baltimore area.
“I always wanted to go to a big-time school,” Miceli said. “I felt really at home there. The coaches are great. I’m really excited that coach Breschi is my coach.”
“Nick is very good between the lines and uses his speed well,” Breschi said. “He’ll add depth and tons of speed to our team.”
