20th-Ranked Volleyball Sweeps Iowa – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – 20th ranked Ohio State ( 9-6 overall, 2-4 Big Ten) made short work of Iowa (6-9, 0-6), defeating the Hawkeyes 15-7, 15-2, 15-5 in sixty-five minutes. OSU’s Rosie Snow scored a match-high 11 kills and 10 digs to lead the Buckeyes. Angelee Abbring added nine kills and Dana Stearns six while Stearns added a match high four aces serves and four assist blocks. Julie Williams of Iowa had a team high eight kills with Hannah Lehman adding five.
%^$The Buckeyes saw a 2-0 lead in game one turn into a 3-2 Hawkeye margin before scoring six consecutive points to go up 8-3. Iowa cut the lead to 9-5 before a four-point Buckeye run made the score 13-5. At 13-6, a kills by Anne Botica and a block by Rosie Snow and Dana Stearns ended the game at 15-7. The Buckeyes hit .231 to .032 for Iowa.
%^$Ohio State held a 2-0 lead in game two before six consecutive sideout set up a run of 12 consecutive points to put the game at game point at 14-0. Back-to-back kills by Sara Meyermann put the Hawkeyes on the board and an OSU ball handling error made the score 14-2. OSU sided out on a kill by Shellye Sills and Dana Stearns ended the game with a kill at 15-2. The Buckeyes hit .550 in the game with only one error to .042 for the Hawkeyes.
%^$OSU went up 4-0 in game three before Iowa cut the lead in half. The Buckeyes put together four short rallies to score the next nine points to lead 13-2. Iowa responded with three points, but an Iowa serving error returned the ball to the Buckeyes. A block by Anne Botica and Dana Stearns set up match point at 14-5 which was followed by service errors for both teams, Jenn Flynn’s kill closed the game at 15-5. Ohio State hit .357 for the game to .179 for Iowa.
%^$The Buckeyes hit .365 for the match to .084 for Iowa. OSU had a 38-22 edge in digs, a seven-three margin in blocks and outserved the Hawkeyes seven to two.
%^$Ohio State continues the current home stand next week when they host #23 Michigan State on Friday night and Michigan Saturday.
