COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman Maxwell Moldovan’s first collegiate season certainly lived up to the hype that followed him to Columbus. The 2019 AJGA Player of the Year earned All-Big Ten honors and was also named to the PING All-Midwest Region Team.
Moldovan flew out of the gate, recording rounds at par or better in each of his first 13 collegiate rounds. He had six Top 20 finishes in eight events, including three Top 10 finishes. He was runner-up at the Valspar Collegiate at 9-under which came against one of the strongest fields in collegiate golf this season.
The Uniontown, Ohio native led the team in scoring at 71.50 and 23.5 of his 24 rounds counted towards the team score. He also topped the squad with eight rounds in the 60s and 16 rounds at par or better. His scoring average of 71.50 is was tied for lowest in a season since Chris Wollmann averaged 71.50 as a senior in 1996-97.
Moldovan and the Buckeyes finished fifth at the Big Ten Championship and then took sixth at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, missing out on qualifying for the finals by just two shots.
