Men’s Gymnastics add Five from Class of 2020

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics program signed five future Buckeyes during the early signing period, the Buckeyes announced on Friday.

The first of the five new Buckeyes include Harrison Andary, a native of Xenia, Ohio. Andary is a two-time Ohio state champion, four-time national competitor, a region 5 elite team member, and USA gymnastics All-American. Outside of gymnastics, Andary is a National Honors Society member and president of the French club.

“Hearing about all of the opportunities that OSU provides its students and its student-athletes made me realize that going here would lay a solid foundation for my future,” Andary said. “ Also, seeing the relationship between the coaches and the team let me know that not only would I get a great education, but a great training environment as well. I can’t wait to be a part of the team and GO BUCKS!”

Making his way from San Diego, California is Tomohiro Kawada. Kawada placed 5th on SR at the 2019 Junior Olympic Nationals.

“The legends from Buckeye Nation such as Raj Bhavsar, Brandon Wynn, Alec Yoder and Sean Melton have made me believe that it was the best place for me to continue my Division 1 gymnastics career and to bring my gymnastics to a whole new level,” Kawanda stated. “Multiple stars have been built from Ohio State and having the academic support that OSU offers helped in my decision of choosing the great Block O.”

Making his way up north, is Kameron Nelson, a native of Jackson Tennessee. Nelson is a two-time USA National Championships competitor, a four-time Regional Elite Team member, and a five-time JE National competitor.

“I chose OSU because of the culture, the team really felt like a family and it has been my dream school forever.” said Nelson.

Next is Jadon Roberson who comes to us from Los Angeles, California. Roberson is a USA Gymnastics Academic All-American and 2019 Junior Olympic Nationals Bronze medalist on Parallel Bars and sixth All-Around.

“I chose OSU because I know that Ohio State will not only help me achieve my goals as a gymnast, but also help me become a well-rounded person ready to take on the world.” said Roberson.

The final member of the signing class is Tyler Rockwood, a native of Lancaster, Ohio. Rockwood is a two-time USA National Championship competitor and 2018 JE National High bar Champion. Outside of gymnastics, Rockwood is a National Honor Society member and a member of the STEM program at his high school.

“I felt like I fit in immediately. The team is one big family and I am lucky to be joining that family.” said Rockwood.

Head coach Rustam Sharipov is looking forward to bringing in the next class of Buckeyes.

”We are excited to announce our 2020 freshman class,” Sharipov stated. “Each of them will have an immediate impact on our program.”
